I have been thinking about things and this is what I have concluded:
The way of the Tao is to flow around. Not to try to control. Not to try to master. I think the proper attitude toward the Coronavirus is to gain enough knowledge of it, information, that we can cope with it.
I don’t think the proper attitude is to fear, to cower in our homes. We have learned that wearing masks helps to prevent the spread. We have learned that staying 6 feet apart helps to prevent the spread. We are learning new ways in the area of vaccines. It’s proper to seek ongoing information, but not to cower in fear, rather to flow around with the information we have learned which includes taking extra steps to protect people in nursing homes.
From a Christian perspective the proper attitude is to have faith, to have hope, to have charity, to surrender to the Will of God. We don’t cower in fear. We don’t try to control – that is God’s role. We gain information, keep gaining information, using the information to live as best we can and live with an attitude of faith, hope, and charity.
I, for one, like how Sweden handled the problem. When we are excessively fearful and try to control things, we create unintended consequences.
What I Think
I think at the root of all our problems is the Ego. It is a concept that belongs to Newtonian physics.
Buber was right - Being-is-in-the-between. Quantum physics shows that. What really exists is the Whole/God/Tao - and the constant change within it. About everything else we create narratives. Which are never it - just maps of the territory - which approximate it - and need to constantly changed as we get more information.
I think the Ego/the stories we tell ourselves about it/the narratives/get us into trouble when we try to preserve it (self-preservation is the basic instinct of the ego) and are fearful, trying to control things.
We can't control things. ALL WE CAN EVER DO IS GET MORE INFORMATION - and in a world of constant change - that must be ongoing.
That really is at the heart of the Scientific Method - to keep coming up with hypotheses and to test them to get more information. The problem is when we think of science as a body of knowledge instead of a method. All we ever really have is a method - this ongoing seeking for information.
The life lesson I have learned is when I act out of fear, I'm acting out of Ego. This ridiculous Newtonian concept. I can't control things. When I try I always end up with unintended consequences that cause suffering.
All I can ever do - all that it is ever proper to do - is to get more information. Then based on the information, based on my values to make the best decisions I can. When I try to control things, when I am full of fear - I get into trouble.
As far as this website is concerned - Government Gang Stalking - I am trying to share information - what has happened to me for the last 14 years. I can't control what happens. I can only share information.
